PIGEON FLYING
- ♦—• — EAST CHRISTCHURCH CLUB The East Christchurch Racing Pigeon Club recently flew off a young bird race from Seddoh Fifty birds were sent, divided amongst 10 owners competing. The birds were liberated at 10 a.m. with a north-west wind and showery weather, which caused the times to be slow. The winner was J Baxter’s bird, No. 107, which flew the distance of 152 miles 915 yards in 4 hours 28 minutes 34 seconds. The following is the result:— . J. Baxter’s No. 107. 899 yards a minute; A. Wright’s No. 312. 694 yards: A. Sutherland’s No. 744, 981 yards; G. Robertson’s No. 102. 668 yards: F. Dunne’s No. 428, 663 yards: J. H Beale’s No. 164, C 64 yards: W. Walls’s No 144, 662 yards; J. Pearce’s No. 180. 563 yards. The club also flew off another young bird race from Hundalee. Seventy-six birds were sent, divided amongst 11 owners competing. The birds were liberated by the stationtnaster at 12.35 p.rn. in fine weather and a slight south-west wind, very little time dividing' l ' the prizewinners. The winner was A. Wright's bird. No. 238. which flew the distance of 88 miles in 2 hours 29 minutes 15 seconds. The following is also the result:— A. Wright’s No. 288, 1002 yards a minute: W. Walls’s No. 150, 1002 yards; Cl. Robertson’s No. 101. 990 yards: R. Sullivan’s No. 207. 976 yards: A, Sutherland’s No. 744. 970 yards; J. Pearce’s No, 184. 067 yards; R. Moore’s No. 3R4t 967 yards; .T. Baxter’s No. 45. 967 vards; F. Dunne's No. 689. 963 vards: J. H. Beale’s No. 499. 957 yards: W. Goslln's No. 707, 944 yards.
