TRANSFER of case timber DISCUSSED The Christchurch Tomato and Stone Fruit Growers’ Association held its annual meeting on Saturday evening, the president (Mr C. E. Pope) presiding over a large attendance. The transport of case timber was reported on by the chairman, who said that the Government was considering the carriage of all case timber by rail as far as possible. This would ,niean an increase of id a case to the grower, he said, and the secretary had been instructed to communicate with - the Minister for Transports - (the Hon. R. Semple) stating the association’s \ objection to any alteration in the present method of the loading by truck from sawmill to packer’s growing shed. The Christchurch Railway traffic manager wrote stating that the carriers at Timaru and Oamaru, who had contracted to transport fruit and vegetables from the railway to auction rooms, had stated that it was hot their intention to continue at the present rate charged. ! The secretary was instructed to reply stating that members desired that fresh tenders should be called for. It was decided to write to Mr C. J. Finneran, expressing the association’s sympathy with him in his illness. The report and balance-sheet were discussed, the latter showing a profit, of £29 14s 5d as against a loss of £2B 16s 8d last year. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr C. E. .Pope (unopposed); vice-presidents, Messrs F. C. Williams and A. Bloxham; committee, Messrs C.' A. Johnson and G. C. Harrow. . Nine new members were elected to the association.,-
