INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL AT RANGIORA
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PBKSS. Sir,—From your brief report of the meeting in connexion with the establishment of an intermediate school at Rangiora, it would* appear that I claimed to have had a wide experience in intermediate schools and also claimed that they were all failures. Neither claim did I make, nor even imply. ~ , , *,_ a u The meeting was called by the Ashley branch of the N.Z.E.1., which, at a regularly convened meeting, decided to oppose the' establishment of an intermediate school at Rangiora. I was asked to address this meeting to support this opposition. This does not mean that I «ras expressing the considered opinion of the branch or of its individual members. Neither the chairman nor I said thai Mr Strachan was the one responsible for the move. All that was known by the- Ashley branch was that the matter had been discussed by the board oi governors.—Yours, etc., „„„ - D. J. HEPBURN. Oxford, April 17, 1940. [Our reporter states that according to his notes, Mr Hepburn said that he had been connected with two intermediate schools and neither had been a success. The reporter states that both Mr Hepburn and the chairman told the meeting that Mr Hepburn was expressing the opposition of the branch but not necessarily of its individual members. 11 was not reported that anyone a 1 the meeting mentioned Mi Strachan's connexion with the proposal. This was the reporter's owr statement.—Ed., "The Press."] ,
