LABOUR PARTY PRINCIPLES
TO THB 6DITOB .OF THE PRE^S. Sir, —Would some defender of the present Government give his opinion of an administration which appointed judicial tribunals to make district labour awards, but in its own sphere of activities exempted itself from such conditions, and in fact, paid wages or salaries of from 15s to £1 a week lower than local awards to its own employees, in addition to certain other detrimental working conditions. The particular cases. I have in mind, are a section of the temporary clerical em-, ployees, who are being treated in this manner by avowed exponents (apparently political) of justice for all. The expression "sweater" is not unknown, I believe, in the extensive vocabulary of present Cabinet Ministers, and I fancy, should not be lost sight of by them. Humbugging excuses only to official requests to right the position by equal treatment for all have been met with. For years I have been an active member of the Labour movement, and untiring in field efforts to return the present party at the head of the poll. However, I could not in good conscience continue to ally myself with any section of thought or deeds which would deny an equality of reward for labour, and in good equity, having removed myself from disciplinary action by the Labour Representation Committee, can comment freely. Where are the defenders of these principles?— Yours, etc., COMMON JUSTICE April 20/ 1940.
