The Hon. W. E. Parry, Minister for Internal Affairs and Acting-Minister for Social Security, arrived from Wellington by the steamer express yesterday morning, and received deputations in Christchurch during the day. To-day Mr Parry, as Minister in charge/of Centennial Celebrations, will attend the celebrations in Akaroa and return to Wellington in the evening. He is accompanied by his private secretary (Mr E. N. G. Poulton). The Hon. R. Mawhete, M.L.C., and the Hon. Vincent Ward, M.L.C., arrived from the north by the steamer express yesterday morning. Dr, G. I. Miller was yesterday reappointed a representative of the Canterbury Education Board on the board of the Ashburton High School. Colonel N. S. Falla, chairman and managing director of the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand, Ltd., will arrive from Wellington this morning and will return by the steamer express, this evening. Sergeant Ernest F. Jones, of New Plymouth, has been appointed to take charge of the St. Albans Police Station, to replace Sergeant W. H. Almond, who died recently. Sergeant Jones will arrive in Christchurch shortly. _ Congratulations to Mr ,A. F. McMurtrie on his appointment: as Assistant Director of Education wore, expressed by the Canterbury Education Board at its meeting yesterday, Mr L. R. Lewis, first assistant at the Normal School, has been appointed Inspector of Schools under the Education Department.
