OPENING OF SEASON’S COMPETITIONS Great interest is being taken in the opening of the ,1940 Rugby season, and to-day’s matches should attract large attendances. The Army team will meet Sunnyside on the Lancaster Park oval nt 2.45 p.m„ and a thrilling game should be seen as both sides are fit and confident. As a curtain-raiser to this match. University will play Technical Old Boys at 1.13 p.m. Albion will play Southern on the south ground at Lancaster Park and New Brighton is to meet Athletic on the west ground. ', At Bueby Park, with its new grassland a bia crowd is expected for the Linwood-Christchurch game, which is always fast and open. ... 3 At the Show Grounds Old Boys will meet Merivale. and this should provide a good display of Rugby.
