LYTTELTON REGATTA TO-DAY
VARIED PROGRAMME ARRANGED Yachts of many classes, together with launches, trawlers, naval whalers, and ships’ lifeboats will compete at the regatta at Lyttelton to-day,, which is being held under the auspices of the New Zealand Centennial Christchurch City Local Committee. Rowing events and a swimming carnival conducted • by the Lyttelton Amateur Swimming Club will also be features of the programme. , Novelty events, including aquaplaning, greasy, pole, man.overboard, diving. lifebuqy diving and dmghy, races, will be held alongside Gladstone Pier, •There .will also be a submarine explosion; • carried out, under military supervision. ... • „ Features of the programme will be th; appearance; of the New Zealand Idlealong champion, Luana, which will compete with other boats of her class, and the presence of the veteran cutter. Pastime, which, although 50 - years old. can stUl show a good turn of speed. The programme is scheduled to be gin at 10.15 aim. and -conclude at 4.30
