.TWO PERSONS RESCUED FROM FIRE
EARLY MORNING OUTBREAK I Overcome by smoke, Mrs H. Dick bad her son, James Dick, were rescued from a. building at 172 High street about 4 o’clock yesterday morning. Tbe fife began at the rear of the j premises occupied by the Oafe Cecil and Knight s butchery. Firemen returning from tbe i joinery fire made a detour, .and were successful in confining the blaze to three rooms. The buildmg. was owned by the James Knight estate, and was insured with the General Accident. Life, and Fire Assurance Corporation. The living quarters, leased to the Cafe Cecil, had their contents insured by the tenants. FIRE BRIGADE RECEIVES MANY CALLS The Central Fire Station had a busy day yesterday, engines; being called out on six’ occasions. The first call was at 1.12 a.ni, to a /tree fire in Garden road, and then at 1.41 ajn, the .alarm Was, received of the joinery works fire. Engines returning from .this J^tbreak were- called-to the blaze, m the Cafe Cecil in High street ■■■ There was no alarm for. the rest of tho morning, but at 2.58 b.m. engines -were called out. by the false alarm of an automatic signal at the Addington workshops. There was a fence, fire at 7.59 p.m. at Lyttelton street, and then at 10.16 p.m. the brigade was again called out to a grass fire oa an en nty, section in Gambllns road. 5t,Martins.. for the joinery little damage was’done. _ , The joinery works of D. Scott ana Sons, which were gutted by fire early on Friday morning, were insured with the Victoria Insurance Company for £1460. No estimate has yet been made of the damage., It is understood that some of machinery may be put into working order.
