-—.—• ATTRACTION OF AUSTRALIAN PLAYERS Wilding Park has not since . 1934 seen such an array of -tennis talent as will appear on Tuesday and Wednesday next, when a strong Australian team will compete in matches with Canterbury’s leading players. . Foremost in the Australian team are J. H. Crawford and John Bromwich, two of the greatest stars the game has known. Grawford has played In nine Davis Cup fixtures. As one recent American tennis journal says: “Jack Crawford is the most consummate stroke artist of all the world’s top-flight players of to-day.” John Bromwich, three years ago outstanding only in his odd two-handed grasp of the racket, has in the intervening period risen to the height of being considered by many critics the top-ranking player in the amateur field to-day. With such a reputation he can be relied on to produce an attractive game in every way. Three brilliant Australian women, Misses Nancy Wynne, Thelma Coyne, and May Hardcastle, complete the team. Miss Wynne Is the present Australian singles and mixed doubles champion, while Miss Coyne is ranked second in Australia. Miss Hardcastle will be renfembered by Christchurch people as winning two titles at the New Zealand championships held here a year ago. With such a personnel, this team’s visit is attracting great interest, and bookings are filling up at the Canterbury Sports Depot for the two-day fixture on Tuesday and Wednesday, at Wilding Park.
