FORMATION OF UNITED CHOIR
CHRISTCHURCH PLAN FOR FESTIVAL The Christchurch committee formed to make arrangements for the festival week of music for the centennial celebrations in Christchurch has completed its preliminary work. For the opening of the festival week, on May 25, Elgar’s “King Olaf” has been chosen for presentation. To present “King Olaf ’ in a manner worthy of the occasion, it has been decided to form a United Christchurch and district choir of 200 voices (soprano, alto, tenor and bass). Active members of all Christchurch and district musical societies and choirs (including church choirs) and other vocalists possessing the necessary qualification are invited to attend a meeting to be held in the Durham street hall to-night at 7.30 p.m., for enrolment. Details will be explained and information given. Following the enrolment evening, the first practice will take place in the Durham street hall next Saturday evening. As the time is short for rehearsal, the local committee, besides communicating with choirs, and conductors concerned, will welcome a large attendance of intending members of the United Choir at the hall this evening. ■ -
