NELSON WINS MAHAR CUP
FIVE NEW RECORDS SET AT MOTUEKA WESTPORT RETAINS DEILEY CUP tFrom Our Own Reporter] . WESTPORT, February 4. Five new records were established and one equalled at the annual amateur athletic and cycling meeting for the Mahar Cup. held at Motueka on Saturday. Marlborough, the holder of the trophy, was not so formidable as in other years and there was a keen contest between Nelson and Greymouth for the trophy. Nelson beating the West Coast team by four points on the final count. Westport, although it had a small team, won five events, the women's relay team- retaining the Deiley Cup won last year at Blenheim. The outstanding performers were C. Knight, winner of the two senior sprints, E. Johnson, the mile flat, G. Kennedy, junior sprint winner, and Miss G. Bucknell, the high jump. All except Kennedy are Canterbury championship titleholders.
