MAYOR OF INVERCARGILL ENLISTS

INVERCARGILL, January 18. The Dominion’s youngest Mayor of a city, Mr J. R. Hanan, Mayor of Invercargill, to-day enlisted for service in the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force. He was immediately examined and passed fit for active service overseas. He will go into a territorial camp at Gore at the week-end, but it is not yet known when he will go into mobilisation camp. Mr Hanan was elected Mayor 18 months ago, after three . and a half years as a city councillor. His three brothers served in the Great War, one being killed in action, and one dying of war injuries a few years later.
