H. GRENNELL WINS DOUBLE RISE TITLE
tPBESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON. January 18. At the New Zealand trapshooting championships, the double rise clay target title went to H. Grenneil (Port Levy), 18 ex 20. R. Cates (Tokornaru Bay), 17 ex 17, was second, and Malcolm, Dobson, and Hough were third equal with 16. The breeze was from behind and made the targets fly quickly without much rise. The next shoot was, a skeet sweepstake, conditions being 4 ' one round of 25 targets. There were 26 competitors. D. P. North (Whangarei) gained a straightout win by breaking 22. He took the first prize of £8 5s 6d. The runners-up were C. A. Thomasen (Waitakaruru), J. Stiven (Ealclutha), and A. E. Robinson (Auckland). They each broke 21, and received £1 17s each.
The second skeet sweepstake was more in the nature of a practice event for tomorrow. when the 1940 Southern Hemisphere skeet championship will be held. There were 22 competitors, and the prizemoney was divided between D. North (Whangarei), A. E. Robinson (Auckland), and W. A. Barnard (Palmerston North), who each broke 22. The possible was 25. The day’s shooting concluded with a single rise clay target sweepstake of 15 targets off handicap distances, shot on the five track system. There were 16 competitors. H. H. Morris (Wellington) gained a straight-out win by breaking 14, for which he received prize-money amounting to £3 12s. Other prize-money was divided between C. A. Thomasen, A. V. Swanson- (Hutt), and V/. Swanson (Hutt), who each broke 13.
