BLOOMS STAND UP WELL SECONP PAY PREMIER AWARjD TO W. W. BROUGH The award for the premier bloom on the second day of the New Zealand Gladiolus Society’s annual show
In Christchurch yesterday was received by W. W, prough for his Miss New Zealand. There were good attendances of the public again, both yes- ' terday afternoon and last evening; All blooms stood up particularly well to the two days’ warm weather and did not dag as had been expected. The display yesterday was just as attractive as .on Wednesday.
In a replacement in the New Zealand seedling section, W. H; Toon yesterday showed a- vastly improved Plitser's Masterpiece, a connoisseur’s bloom of a beautiful pink shade. The
same grower also showed - for ■ exhibition only a Great Garbo, which is., a higbly»priced new variety from abroad and ■which ha? Pht yet been released in New Zealand. The Great Garbo Isa highly decorative .bloom of a. pale;
flesh pmh shade with a pale lemon drop. The fuchsia display arranged on the. stage of the Caledonian Nall by the Reserves Department of the City Council attracted considerable attention on both 'evenings of the show when it was flpod-lit in colour. The groundwork -of the display consisted of
rngiden-hair fern, leaf begonias, shrubs and pot plants. Fuchsias therm selves were of many varieties and in*, eluded some new specimens. /
