BANKS PENINSULA RABBIT BOARD KILLINGS REPORTED FOR DECEMBER One of the board’s rabbiters reported to the Banks Peninsula Rabbit Board at its last meeting that there was at

present considerable difficulty in securing suitable ferrets. Cyanide poisoning had been found useful in certain places. Mr R. Wallis, another inspector, reported that no rabbits were

coming through where the gates had been removed at Motukarara and the fences leading to these gates netted, as there were no rabbits in this vicinity. Those present at the meeting were Messrs T. Masefield (chairman), J. N. McGowan. A. E. Williams, V.

Craw, and N. A. Gardiner. The killings for December were reported as folic s;—lnspector A. Hoskin 22 bucks and does and 31 young, total 53; M. C. Barclay 36 bucks and does and 29 young, total 65; R. Wallis, 63 bucks and does and five yottog, total 68. Total killings for the month 176. The financial position showed receipt of rates amounting to £8 9s 8d; accounts passed for payment were £IOO 13s, leaving a debit balance of £l2O 6s 9d.

RANGIORA Mr W. Liddell left yesterday to spend a holiday in the North Island. The Rev. J. A. F. Watson, who has accepted a call to Riverton, will leave the Knox Presbyterian Church, Rangiora, at the end of next month.

KAIKOURA Mr D. Clark, of the post office staff, Kaikoura, has received notice of his transfer to Oxford, and will leave to take up his new duties early next Misses A. Evans and M. Hughes, Greymouth, have left for Wellington after a short holiday with Mrs Hughes s mother, Mrs D. M. Jack, Kaikoura. Mr and Mrs Eastmond. Christchurch, are spending a short time in Kaikoura. Mr and Mrs James Davidson have returned to Kaikoura after a visit to the North Island. Mr Max Burtinshaw. Timaru, is spending a short holiday with his brother, Mr A. Burtinshaw, Kaikoura.

OXFORD METHODIST CHURCH

The quarterly meeting of the Oxford Methodist Church was held on Tuesday night, the Rev. A. H. Fowles presiding, and there was a fair attendance of officials. Messrs L. Watson and E. G. Wells were appointed circuit stewards for the, ensuing year. Mr L. Watson was appointed representative to the Dunedin Conference and Mrs C. W. Tritt substitute.

CHEVIOT COUNTY COUNCIL

The monthly meeting of the Cheviot County Council was held recently, Cr. J. Paton presiding. Other councillors present were Crs. J. D. E. Winskill, J. F. MacFarlane, N. R. Wilkinson. W. L. Foster, M. C. Hyde, and D. McLaren. A grant of five guineas was made to the St. John Ambulance. The president of the New Zealand Counties’ Association wrote with reference to-the issuing of drivers’ licences by county councils. After a discussion, the council decided to adhere, under protest, to the proposals put forward by the Minister for Transport. The monthly bank statement showed a credit of £67 13s 7d, as compared with a debit of £2142 4s 4d at the same date last year. Accounts amounting to £635 19s 7d Vfere approved for payment.. ,

In a friendly cricket match a team from Gore Bay was beaten by a team from the Cheviot Cricket Club by 180 runs to 92. ...
