DOMAIN AT TAUMUTU
EXCHANGE OF LAND PROPOSED
Messrs J. T. Parkin, F. Alexander, and J. Brown, representing the Ellesmere Aquatic Club, interviewed the Ellesmere County Council at its monthly meeting about a proposal to exchange a 10-acre reserve held by the council for one of the same area at Taumutu, formerly used by the Aquatic Club for its regatta and sports. The latter reserve forms part of the Maori commonage, and it is desired that the council should take control and that the area should become a public domain. / .'. It was stated that the Aquatic Club had erected a building on the property at a cost of £l6O, and that £64 had been spent on a water supply. After fully discussing the proposal, the chairman .said that the council would get into touch with the Native Lands Department to see whether the exchange could be arranged. The clerk is also to look into the legal position. It was also suggested that the residents should set up a local committee to assist the council in looking after- the buildings. \ - Cr. J. P. McEvedy reported that the Public Works Department" had comEleted two culverts at Little Rakaia, oth of which were functioning -atisfactorily. It was decided to thank the Minister for Public Works for providing improved drainage in this area. Powers of county councils under the Rural' Housing Act passed last year to obtain advances for farmers to build houses for their employees were de-
