Senior-Sergeant D. Wilson, of the Lyttelton Police Force, is on holiday leave, and Sergeant C. Mcßae, of Christchurch, is in charge at Lyttelton. ! Signallers' Examination j Messrs J. Welsh and C. Bridger, of the staff of the Lyttelton Harbour Board, were successful this week in passing the examination for signallers recently instituted by the Marine Department. Shorthand Examinations Advice has been received that Mary Morse, a pupil of St. Mary's High School, Lyttelton, was successful in gaining a credit pass in the junior Government shorthand-typists' examination held in November, securing sixth place on the credit list. This pupil also secured Pitman's amanuensis cei'tificate for shorthand-typists at the rate of 90 words a minute. Other passes gained by pupils of the Lyttelton . Convent, School were. Sheila Huckle, 80 words a minute; June Harkess, 70 words a Magistrate's Court At the Magistrate's Court yesterday, before Mr F. F. Reid, S.M., George
James Keith Robertson, for cutting a corner in a motor-car, was convicted and fined 15s and ordered to pay costs 110s. Stanley John Alderdice, for inconsiderate driving of a motor-cycle, was convicted and fined 15s and ordered to pay costs 10s. Both informations were laid by the Lyttelton Borough Traffic Inspector, Mr G. M. Danid. For boarding a moving train, Robert Blair Symon was convicted and fined 10s, and ordered to pay costs 10s. In the following civil cases, judgment was given for the plaintiff by default:—Commissioner of Taxes, v. Finlay McDonald, £6 19s lOd; same v. James William Olley, £1 lis 9d; same v. John William Ross, £lO 12s 9d.
