WEATHER REPORT

OFFICIAL FORECASTS [THE PRESS Special Service] WELLINGTON,' January 17. The weather forecast for Canterbury, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours (following the time of issue, is as follows:

Light to moderate easterly winds, freshening at times on the coast. Weather fair to fine and warm; seas slight to moderate.

WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast is:—

Light and variable winds. Weather fair to fine and warm., Seas smooth or slight.

DOMINION The following is the Dominion forecast:—

Scattered rain over the northern half of the North Island, possibly extending later as far south as Taranaki and Southern Hawke's Bay. Otherwise fair to fine, with warm temperatures. An anti-cy-clone is centred east of the South Island, and a weak depression has formed to the north-east of the North Island.

Winds—From the easterly quarter predominating; moderate to fresh over the northern half of the North Island, elsewhere light or moderate.

Seas (New Zealand waters)— Becoming rough in places on the east coast, north of Hawke's Bay, elsewhere slight or moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea—Light to moderate and variable winds, with southeasterlies or southerlies predominating in the northern portion. Seas slight, but rising in the north.

CHRISTCHURCH i WEATHER

The weather in Christchurch was fine, though overcast in the morning. There was a north-easterly breeze through the day. The maximum temperature was 65.1 degrees.

At 1 o'clock this morning the sky was overcast and a northeasterly wind was blowing. The temperature was 60 degrees. The barometer, falling slightly, read 30.15 inches (1021 millibars).

Auckland—The day was cloudy and misty, with showers from the south-east. The maximum temperature was 70 degrees and the minimum 61 degrees. The barometer at 5 p.m. was falling slightly, the reading being 30.00 inches (1016 millibars). Wellington.—There was brilliant sunshine all day, with very warm temperatures and a light breeze from the south. The minimum temperature on Tuesday was 51.8. the maximum yesterday being 70.6. The barometer reading was 1019 millibars.

Dunedin—The sun again shone brightly yesterday from a cloudless sky, and there was a gentle breeze from the south-east, which changed round later to the northeast. Temperatures were mild to warm, the maximum being 75 degrees. The barometer was falling slightly throughout the day, and the evening reading was 30.14 inches (1020 millibars).
