OBITUARY

The death occurred in Christchurch on Monday of Mr W. E. Clarkson, of the clerical staff of the railways at Lyttelton. Mr Clarkson,- who .was aged 55 years, ; had just completed 40 years' service with the department, and was about to take three months' leave before ' his. retirement. He was born in Lyttelton, a sen.of Captain E. Clarkson, a master of sailing vessels trading out of Lyttelton, and joined the staff of the-department at Lyttelton. He served at various-stations in the South Island until his transfer back to Lyttelton a few years agb. As a young men he was a keen footballer and swimmer.
