PINES BEACH ROAD

REQUEST FOR SEALING DECISION OF KAIAPOI BOROUGH COUNCIL The Kaiapoi Borough Council at its meeting last night decided to write to the Canterbury. Progress League urging that an effort be made to have the Pines Beach road tar-sealed at the same time as work was undertaken on the Waikuku Beach road. Those present were the Mayor (the Rev. W. H. A. Vickery) and Crs. A. E. Brown, H. O. Hills, A. S. Palmer, H. Rinaldi, W. Hart, C.'T. "Williams, and A. Linklater. The clerk of the Rangiora County Council advised the Kaiapoi Council that Rangiora's financial position would not permit the work being undertaken next financial year, but if the residents in'the locality were prepared to assist an effort would be made to 1 proced with the matter the following year! Cr. Rinaldi suggested ttiat vrtnle labour was available and weather was suitable provision' be made by the council to carry out additional tar-seal-ing in the borough. It was decided that provision be made to set aside a further £3OO for carrying on this work. The works committee reported that sealing work at the intersections of Cookson and Sewell streets and Cookson and Cass streets had been decided on. ;'■.-.'

The question of paying men employed under scheme 13 at an hourly rate instead of by the day was deferred to the next council meeting. On the recommendation of the lighting committee, it was decided that the minimum charge for motors of 10 horse-power and over, not used on the peak load, be 2s each horse-power unit a month, and that application be made to the Depreciation Fund Commissioner for a refund of the sum of £3Ol 2s 8d for reticulation renewals. The financial statement showed receipts since last meeting as £2839 10s 2d, debit bank balance £4078 13s 9d and accounts passed for payment £2440 18s 4d. __ .
