CLAY BIRD SHOOTERS

POSSIBLE USEFULNESS IN HOME DEFENCE (PBJSSS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, January 16. With the world situation as it was, and it not being known from day to day what was going to happen, those shooters of New Zealand who were too old for overseas service could provide the foundation of one of the best home defence organisations that could be produced, said the Minister fir Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E Parry) to-day at the opening of the New Zealand Gun Clubs' Association Centennial trap-shooting tournament at Taita. Mr Parry said that there were 3000 clay bird shooters in New Zealand—men with •experience of the bush and the hills. He believed that if they were called on to fight in New Zealand they would be as stiff a proposition as an enemy would meet anywhere in the world.
