ESPIONAGE SUSPECT DETAINED

MEMBER OF CREW OF GERMAN LINER (Received January 15, 7.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, January 14. Karl Schluter, a principal in the Rumrich, Hofman, and Glazer espionage trials in 1938, was found among the crew'of the scuttled German liner Columbus during the checking of the survivors. He was detained by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Schluter escaped to Germany in 1938 when the Grand Jury Indictments were prematurely made public, and joined the liner, which was on the South American run.

Tribute to Mr Chamberlain—The results of the subscription for the erection in Lisbon of a statue to Mr Chamberlain as a tribute to his efforts for peace will, according to the wish of Mr Chamberlain, be applied to a public charity. It has been resolved to give portion of the money to the erection of a maternity hospital in Lisbon. —London, Jam 14.
