OBITUARY
MR W. W. KEIGHLEY
Mr William Watson Keighley, .who died bn Monday, was a prominent fignrc in the tim’-er industry. Mr Keighley, who was at first a building contractor in business with his father, established himself as a timber merchant in Fitzgerald avenue, Christchurch, more than 40 years ago. He was several times president of the North Can-terbury-Timber Merchants’ Association, was a director of the New Forest Sawmilling Company, and - had sawmilling interests on the West Coast.
A keen interest in both cricket and football was taken, by Mr' Keighley, in
his youth. It was as full-back of the Lin wood first fifteen that he became well known in Rugby football in the early nineties. For many years he was a ivice-president of the Lancaster, Park and Beckenham Cricket Clubs. In recent years; Mr Keighley was a keen bowler, and he was a former president of both the Beckenham and Cashmere Bowling Clubs. An active gardener, Mr Keighley took pride in the* growing of many varieties of native trees at his home on the Cashmere Hills. He was a foundation member and Past Master of the Cashmere Masonic 'Lodge; -and - was a director of the Cashmere Recreation Club. Mr Keighley’s first wife was • Miss Ellen. Henley, daugther, ;of Mr ;F; W. Henley, of Woolston. and he vived by five daughters. In 1920 'he married Mrs White, the daughter of Mr Charles Mazey, of Christchurch.
