BRITISH EXCHEQUER RETURNS

LARGE INCREASE IN REVENUE

EXPENDITURE IS ALSO HIGHER

LONDON, December 31

The Exchequer returns for the three-quarters of the financial year, ended on December 31, show that total and ordinary revenue amounts to £544,474,103, compared with £490,435,566 for the corresponding period in the preceding financial year. The estimate for the whole year was £995,180,000, but in fourth quarters, receipts from the Inland Revenue are always much higher than in the three earlier quarters. In these quarters inland revenue yielded £212,646,000, against £198,454,000 a year ago, and against an estimate for the whole year of £578,750,000. Expenditure, less self-balancing items, is £858,835,463, compared with £739,882,332 at the corresponding date last year, and with an estimated expenditure for the year of £1,430,9ri,000.
