CAMPAIGN FOR RECRUITS
RESULT OF CITY EFFORTS MANY MEN ANSWER CALL THIRTY-THREE ENLISTMENTS YESTERDAY
The effectiveness of the recruiting campaign launched by a committee of citizens in Christchurch is proved by the results. In the week ended December 9, nine enrolments were made in the whole of Canterbury. Yesterday the recruits numbered 32 in Christchurch alone. For several weeks no enlistments were made at Ashburton, yet five men have registered there in the last fortnight. The following table, the figures giving the registrations for the week ended the dates mentioned, sets out the trend of recruiting;— j September 16 Christchurch .. .. 820 i Timaru .. .. 226 Ashburton .. . • 84 Total .. ..
