The King’s Quotation. —Miss M. L. Haskins has achieved overnight fame through the King using a quotation from one of her works in his broadcast speech to the Empire. Her telephone is ringing continuously throughout the day, and telegrams are arriving from all over the world. There are streams of callers, including photographers; newsreel cameramen, advertising and literary agents. Manjr requests have been made for permission to use the quotation for posters and for articles.—London, Dec. 28.

Allies’ War Dead.—The newspaper “Petit Bleu” states; “The war has cost France 1434 dead and Britain 2511. Our British friends offer not only machines, They offer them-selves.”—-Paris, Dec. 28. Japan'and Bulgaria.—Japan has established diplomatic relations with Bulgaria.' Her new Minister (Mr Teruo Hachiyb), formerly Counsellor in Warsaw, has presented his credentials to King Boris. The Legation will be the centre of Japanese activity in -the Balkans, where it is hoped to extend trade.—Sofia, Dec. 28.

Guardianship of Quintuplets. —Dr. Dafoe is to resign his guardianship of the Dionne quintuplets, ■ but will remain their personal physician, says the correspondent of the United Press of-America at Callander (Ontario)- This agreement ends the controversies aqd legal actions over the control of the children. Dr. Dafoe advocates a common dwelling for the* children and their family.—New York, Dec. 28.

Gilt to British Troops.—; The British Empire Service League of South Africa has sent the Secretary of State for "War (Mr L. Hore-Belisha) a cheque signed by Field-Marshal Lord Milne for. £4OO, representing contributions from 4000 former servicemen and women towards Christ_lnas comforts for the British troops in the front line “with best wishes from their comrades in South Africa.” The gift has been acknowledged by Mr Hore-Belisha. —Rugby, Dec. 28.
