Entertainments for Troops.— Wireless programmes designed especially for the British Expeditionary Forces and other forces serving on land and sea are to be broadcast by the British Broadcasting Corporation from January 7.—London, Dec. 27.
Communist Property Seized.—The Courts have ordered the seizure of the property of 41 unions and other .organisations controlled by Communists. ■ A total of 242 organisations affiliated to the Communist Party has been dissolved since the outbreak of war.—Paris, Dec. 27.
British Purchases in Brazil.— Britain is reported to be negotiating for the purchase of several million dollars’ worth of Brazilian goods with an initial outlay of 500,000 dollars on meats.—New York, Dec. 27. Contraband Seized by Allies.—The Allied contraband control has seized nearly 900,000 tons of. goods destined for Germany since the war began. Last week’s total was 6800 tons, including large quantities of timber and cotton.—London, Dec. 27. Red Cross Fund.—During the Christmas holidays, the Lord Mayor’s Red Cross Fund increased by £3OOO to £889,000. —London, Dec. 27. Count Ciano Honoured.—The Pope has conferred on the Italian Foreign Minister (Count Ciano) the highest Papal decoration, that of the Golden Spur.—Rome, Dec. 26.
German Banks Dismisj Turks.—lt is reported from Istanbul that the German banks have dismissed Turkish employees.:—London, Dec. 27. Argentine Wheat Crop—Because of the poor wheat crop the Argentine Government has appropriated 9,000,000 pesos to supply seed at cost price and grant special credits to needy growers.—Buenos Aires, Dec. 27.
