The Minister for Labour (the Hon. P. C. Webb), who spent Saturday in Christchurch, returned to Wellington the steamer express at night.

The Minister for Agriculture (the Hon. W. Lee Martin) left Christchurch on Saturday night on his return to Wellington. Mr H. S. S. Kyle, M.P., and Mr N. M. Orbell have been re-elected members of the Board of Governors of Canterbury Agricultural College, Lincoln.

Surgeon-Lieutenant E. S. McPhail, R.N.V.R., of Rangiora, has been appointed to serve as medical officer on H.M.S. Monowai.

Mr H. Daniel has been appointed a member of the Riccarton Licensing Committee.

Mr S. S. Millington, of Wellington, defence purchase officer, arrived in Christchurch yesterday morning from the north. Colonel P. H. Bell, officer commanding the Southern Military District, returned to Christchurch from the North Island on Saturday morning.

Colonel G. J. Smith was an arrival in the city from Wellington on Saturday morning. - Mr H. D. Acland (president of the New Zealand Sheepowners’ Federation) was among the passengers' from the north by the steamer express on Saturday. Dr. James Hight, rector of Canterbury University College, and Dr. H. G. Denham returned from the North Island on Saturday. Mr H. R. Penny has been appointed a producers’ representative on the New Zealand Honey Control Board.

Mr P. J. Byrne, secretary of the Canterbury Cricket Association, was entertained by the association and the, Old Collegians’ Club in honour of his marriage to-day, and was presented with a cheque. Mr Byrne will leave New Zealand with the Special Force for service overseas.
