WAIPA R.C. TO-DAY’S PROGRAMME [THE PRESS Special Service.] AUCKLAND, December 15. The weather has been fine to-day and the outlook for the Waipa Racing Club’s summer meeting at Te Awamutu to-morrow is favourable. Provision has been made to run the Waipa Plate and the Ohaupo Hack Handicap in two divisions if the starters exceed the safety number. It is practically certain that there will have to be two divisions in the Waipa Plate, but the necessity may be obviated in the Ohaupo Hack Handicap. The course is in great order after recent rain, and jthe going should be good. Betting will be under the win and place system. Horses likely to be well supported include:— W. G. Park Hurdles: Devon, Noisy Night, Gleh Abb. J Kihikihi Hack Handicap: Tellsom, Cornish, Clipper. , Waipa Plate, first division: High Crown, Merry Vaals, Lady Bambury. Second division: Glen Connell, Kilcash. Trig Station. Te Awamutu Cup: Balinavar, Baran. Gladynev. Hack Cup Handicap: Proud Fox, Indian Sun, Hutana. Ohaupo Hack Handicap: Tahiti. Buccaneer, Vertex. FOR AUCKLAND CUP CATALOGUE A PROBABLE STARTER (By Carbine.) * Since his return to New Zealand from Australia t Catalogue has done .well, and it is probable he will be taken to Ellerslie to contest the Auckland Cup, in which he has top weight, 9-2. It seemed for a while that his next important race would be the Wellington Centennial Cup, but the latest probability is that he will tackle the event in the north. AUCKLAND K.C. ACCEPTANCES (raxss ASSOCIATION TEIiEGHAM.) AUCKLAND, December 15. The Auckland Racing Club has received the following acceptances for the first day of its summer meeting:— • QUEEN’S PLATE, of £500; special weights: one mile—Hutana, White Foam, Buccaneer. Great Swoop, High Crown, Meadow, Native Chief, Proud Fox, Foxsen, Millament, Serenata.
Third Day GREAT NORTHERN DERBY, of £2000; for three-year-olds; colts 8-10, fillies 8-7; one mile and a half—Baran, Beaulivre, Beau Repaire, Beau Vite, Fils de Vaals. Foxtoon, Indian Sun. Moorsotis, Native Chief, Orelio, Pern, Foxsen. Fourth Day ROYAL STAKES, of £500; for two-year-and three-year-olds; special weights: six furlongs—Llandaff, Omapo, Stylist, Ascot Bloom, Beau Leon, Kentucky. Lou Rosa, Nightbeam, Phaleron, Rich Blood, Ringcraft, Sir Cameron, Grandora, Doria, Happicoat, Harmony, Queen City. Lowenberg’s Half-brother • Algerian, the maiden winner on the first day at Woodville, .is a halfbrother by Beau Pere to Lowenberg. He is a light fleshed colt who is not very robust according to his connexions, but there is no doubt about his galloping ability, and more should be heard of him soon. Well Related Moradabad, who ran second to Algerian at Woodville, is a close relative to those good gallopers Quadroon, Florence Mills and Old Bill. She. has not been hurried and, though she showed an early tendency to be fractious at the barrier, it seems that all she wanted was strong handling. Moradabad is certain to go on improving.

HURUNUI TURF , CLUB
TO-DAY’S PROGRAMME The Hurunui Turf Club’s annual nontotall’sator meeting, to be held on the Hurunui racecourse to-day, should provide some excellent facing. Good fields will be paraded in all events, and some useful horses will be taking part. The course is within easy motoring distance from Christchurch, :4d, as was the case last year, many racegoers from Christchurch and district are expected. The programme is as follows;
REACHING PEAK FORM GOOD HANDICAP HORSES (By Carbine.) Several of the better class handicap horses showed at Woodville that they will be at their best during the holidasfegmund, third in the mile and a Quarter, finished in such fine style that he is sure to be in keen demand for the Manawatu Cup, which is run over a mi'V- and a half. Siegmund is in better form now than he has been for some time past. Friesland seems to have been very lightly supported by his immediate friends, so evidently his victory surprised them just as it did the public. Friesland should be a better horse later in the month, and probably will be among the holiday winners. Lady Furst had a couple of races to sharpen her, and she should be m good trim when paraded again. Her ability to bowl along freely at a sound pace makes her a difficult opponent in middle-distance races. ' Kena demonstrated that he will be a danger if the going is soft for the Christmas or New Year racing. He is hard to beat on a heavy course. Beaupartir appeared among the sprinters, and easily beat a weak field. His condition is advanced, and his performance was pleasing. This good horse has not been seen at his best this season. He should come into his own during the summer or the autumn.
AUCKLAND T.C.
ACCEPTANCES (PBXS9 ASSOCIATION TZCEGBAM.) AUCKLAND, December 15. The December Handicap to Ve decided at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting will be run in divisions and the stake Increased from £2BO to £4OO. The first division will be run on the first day and the second on the second day. The following acceptances have been received:— SELBY HANDICAP, of £250. Unhoppled trotters. 3min 45sec class. One mile and a half.
TURF GOSSIP Reminders Nominations for the Greymouth Jockey Club’s summer meeting will close at 9 p.m. to-day. Nominations for the Reefton Jockey Club’s midsummer meeting will close at 9 p.m. to-day. At Invercargill The Southland Racing Club* has received a big list of nominations for its two-day meeting at New Year. The only Riccarton horses nominated are Merry March and The Sandwichman, the latter being in the hurdle race and the big flat handicap on each day. Nominations for the Invercargill Cup of £550, one mile and a quarter, are as follows:—Peony Rose,- Alma, Made Money, Wild Career, Merry March, Spear Thrust, Mona’s Song, The Sandwichman, Spanish Lad, Boswell, Sailing Lady, Doubleack, Shy, Passaform, Chirp, Queen of Song, Swordstick, Night Wings. Night Pal, Balmenter. Great Swoop The Riccarton-trained hack Great Swoop should earn expenses at Ellerslie, for his southern form has been good. His last success was in the Kaikorai Handicap, run over six furlongs at the Dunedin meeting in October, in which he beat a strong field. Those who finished behind him included Dark Flight, who subsequently ran third in the Stewards' Handicap at the New Zealand Cup meeting and later at the same fixture won the Avon Handicap and the Members’ Handicap. That form will ensure Great Swoop support in hack events at Ellerslie. .
The Right Breeding The Auckland Cup candidate, Hot Box, who won the Great Northern Guineas last season, was successful in the Poland Cup, 11 furlongs, at Ohinemuri first up this term, and though he has failed in three starts since, he has gone fair races under good weights. He is a son of Cape Horn out of the Valkyrian—Pebble II mare Iseball, an imported line of which he is the best representative to date, though it is attractively pedigreed, descending from the great Paraffin through a half-sister to Illuminata. the dam of Ladas (Derby) and Chelandry.this being the taproot from-which have come Heroic, Magpie, Rossendale, and others noted for their staying descendants. Likely Improver Baran had not done any fast work since Riccarton when he .raced at Woodville, because of indisposition, so in the circumstances he ran an excellent race, and will be improved for his Auckland engagements. In the meantime he is in the Te Awamutu Cup to-day, and should be prominent. Made Amends
When a horse makes amends after a series of failures it generally does it in full measure, and this was the case of Little Dorrit at Woodville. Of course on the second day she was in an apprentices’ race, but at the same she won well and may go on with it. Incidentally her apprentice rider, - P. G. Buchanan, was having only his second ride in a race. When on the scales weighing out he was almost obscured by the saddle and gear, and the public gave him a great hand when he returned to scale after winning the race. Beaupartir In Form Because of the rain the form on the second day at Woodville may not be very reliable for the holiday racing, but it proved that Beaupartir is in good order for his engagements at Auckand, which incude the Cup. Woodville form has often proved a fairly reliable guide to events at Ellerslie in December, and, though the distance over which Beaupartir won was only six furlongs, he has to be given credit for winning in solid style and he is in excellent condition for the northern trip, in which he will be ridden by W. Broughton. (CONTINUED ON PAGE 18)
