CHALLENGE TO ME SCEIMGEOUE
ACTION ENDORSED MID-CANTERBURY FARMERS’ MOTION The action of Mr J. J. Maher, of Mangaroa, Wellington, in taking up the challenge of Mr C. G. Scrimgeour, Controller of Commercial Broadcasting, over alleged statements against farmers in a recent broadcast, was endorsed by the Mid-Canterbury provincial executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union which met at Ashburton yesterday. On a motion of Messrs F. G. Evans (Ashburton Forks) and R. Dunkley (Methven) it was decided to write to Mr Maher congratulating him on taking up the challenge of Mr Scrimgeour and expressing the hope that he would pursue his purpose and force from Mr Scrimgeour a retraction and apology.
