♦ NO CARDINALS APPOINTED TO VACANCIES VATICAN CITY, December 11A Consistory attended by 24 cardinals nominated Cardinal Laurence Land as cardinal camerlengo. nr chamberlairu Although there are 11 vacancies in the College of Cardinals, the Pope did not aopoint any cardinals This is the first time in the Church’s history that the Pope has not appointed cardinals at his first Consistory. This is believed to be- because of his grief at the international situation. His Holiness, in a speech at the Consistory, instructed the cardinals regarding the stand they must fake to combat the spread of atheism and neo-paganism which he fears will be the result of the war.
