TWO ROOMS DAMAGED BY FIRE
♦ OUTBREAK IN HOTEL SERVANTS* QUARTERS Two rooms in the servants’ quarters of the Hotel Cecil, on the corner of Manchester and Belfast streets, were considerably damaged by fire which broke out shortly after 10 o’clock last night. In one of the rooms in the quarters, which are detached from the hotel, two maids were awakened by the smoke and escaped without injury, but the contents of one room were destroyed, and those in another room were damaged. . ■ , The alarm was given after smoke had been seen coming from the quarters at the rear of the hotel by one of the boarders, ai i the Christchurch Central Fire Brigade was able to prevent the outbreak from spreading to other rooms in the wooden building. The cause of the outbreak was not known last night. The building was insured.
