FORTY-HOUR WEEK FAVOURED
♦ TRAMWAY EMPLOYEES* RESOLUTION PROTEST AT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ATTITUDE A strong protest against motions by the Chamber of Commerce and other organisations favouring the, abolition of the 40-hour week has been made in a resolution by the Christchurch Tramway Employees’ Union, Support for the Government’s adherence to internal policy is also expressed. The motion, which has been passed at a meeting of the union, states:— “That this meeting supports the Government in its determination to adhere to its present internal policy and strongly protests against the motions passed by the Chamber of Commerce and other organisations favouring the abolition of the 40-hour week."
