OFFICIAL FORECASTS

WELLINGTON, October 25
The weather forecast for Canterbury issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: —
Moderate to fresh southerly winds. Weather changeable, with passing showers. Cool temperatures. Seas moderate to rather rough.
WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:—
Moderate to fresh southerly winds. Weather cool and showery, but improving. Seas moderate.
DOMINION The forecast for the Dominion is;—
Unsettled in the western districts south of Taranaki, and in the far south, with rain at times. Otherwise fair to cloudy, but becoming showery and colder with the southerly change. Conditions improving later in Westland. An anti-cyclone is moving slowly eastwards off the North Island, while the last of a series of depressions has commenced to cross the South Island.
Winds—Northerly to westerly predominating at first. Mairlly moderate in force, but strong at times in the central provinces. A change to fresh southerlies setting in shortly in the south and probably extending to beyond Cook Strait to-morrow. Seas (New Zealand waters) —Rough in the Cook Strait area. Otherwise slight to moderate, but rising south of Banks Peninsula and about Foveaux Strait.
Eastern Tasman Sea—Moderate northerly winds and moderate seas at first, but a change to strong southerlies ‘advancing from the south-west.
CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER
Yesterday was fine and warm in Christchurch, with bright sunshine in the afternoon and a moderate southwest wind all day. The maximum temperature was 66.2 degrees.
At 1 o’clock this morning very light rain was falling and there was a moderate south-westerly wind. The temperature was 50 degrees, and the barometer, at 1010.5 millibars (29.84 inches), was falling sharply.

Auckland—Yesterday was cloudy but fine with a light south-west wind. The maximum temperature was 68 degrees. The barometer was falling slightly at 5 o’clock at 30.03 inches (,1017 millibars). Wellington—Yesterday was overcast with a strong squally north-westerly wind. Several gusts of more than 50 miles an hour were recorded at Kelburn Observatory. The maximum temperature was 58.8 degrees. At 6 p.m. the temperature was 55.0 degrees and the barometer at 1010 millibars (29.825 inches). Dunedin—The sky was overcast yesterday. The temperature was cool until the early afternoon, when a maximum of 56 degrees was reached. There was practically no wind, and heavy rain showers fell during the afternoon and evening. The barometer was steady at 29.90 Inches (1012 millibars).
