(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) (Received October 26, 12.15 a.m.) . BUDAPEST. October 25. Hungary is reported to have received assurances of Italian and Jugoslav aid if she has to fight Russia. It Is added that if Russia invades Bessarabia, Hungary will march into Transylvania, making the Carpathians a barrier against Communism’s movement further west.

Mr Otto D. Tolischus, correspondent of the “New York Times,” writes that such is the weight of the Russian pressure, according to wellauthenticated sources, that Germany has abandoned the fortification of Memel, which is within gunshot of Polanga. It is expected that Russia sooner or later will demand the use of Memel as a transit port. She has already advised the Germans to cease the hitherto rapid purchase of property owned by Lithuanians.

The Rome radio has announced that Italy and Jugoslavia have signed a commercial agreement providing for the exchange of Jugoslavian livestock and timber for cotton and other products.
POLES TO SERVE IN FRANCE
(Received October 25, 7 p.m.) LONDON, October 24. The Polish Embassy in London announced the general mobilisation of Poles in Britain for military service with the Polish army in France.

It was announced in the House of Commons that an agreement had been reached covering the shipment of 200,000 tons of frozen beef and lamb from the Argentine during the period November 1 to January 31. •

The newly-formed New Zealand Association of New South Wales, which, since the declaration of war, has been making soldiers’ comforts, has completed the first batch of articles, comprising pyjamas, socks, and balaclavas, which are now ready for dispatch to New Zealand troops when required.
NIGERIAN OFFERS OF
HELP
(BRITISH OFFICIAL WIRELESS.) RUGBY, October 24. The Colonial Office announces that native administrations in Nigeria made spontaneous offers of sums of money to assist His Majesty’s Government in the prosecution of the war.
The Colonial Secretary (Mr Malcolm Mac Donald), however, replied that, while the offers -were greatly appreciated, he thought the local needs of the administrations should come first, and that they should not deprive themselves of sums which might be needed to meet future requirements in Nigeria.
