COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE
[THE PRESS Special Service.]
WELLINGTON, October 25,
Admitting a charge of bigamy in the Magistrate's Court to-day, Mary Jonas, aged 31, a domestic, was committed by Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., to the Supreme Court for sentence.
Evidence was given by William R. Jonas that he was married to accused at Christchurch in 1931, and by Thomas Bolger, a hotel worker, that he met her at the Chateau Tongariro when she was head waitress there, and went through a form of marriage with her at Gisborne in April last. Jn a statement made to DetectiveSergeant E. H. Compton, and read by him in Court, accused said she knew it was wrong to marry Bolger while Jona’s was still alive; but she did not then realise the seriousness of her action.
