STOCK SALES

ASHBURTON Brisk bidding from the beginning marked the stock sale at Ashburton yesterday. There was a large yarding of fat sheep, and the high quality of recent sales was maintained. Values for prime quality ewes were easier by about Is on those at Tinwald a week ago. Top price for fat ewes was obtained by E. S. Barnes (Coldstream), who sold a pen of 12 at 34s Id. Fat wethers ranged in price from. 17s 7d to 33s 4d. Sales were:—

Cattle —Fat heifers at £5 to £l6 17s 6d; fat cows at £7 10s to £8 15s; runners at £1 17s 6d to £2 17s 6d. RANGIORA There were fair yardings at the Ranglora stock sale yesterday. Prices were:— Sheep—Fat ewes, 21s 9d to 31s 6d; ewes and lambs, all counted, 8s lOd to 10s 6d.

Cattle—Good springers, £8 to £lO 10s; aged springers, £5 10s to £7 10s; fat cows,* to £ll ss: store cows, £4 ss; yearling heifers, £4 ss. Pigs—Porkers, 555; small stores, 30s to 325; good weaners, 24s to 275; small weaners, 18s to 21s. TEMUKA

The entry of 60 head of fat cattle at tivs Temuka slack, sale comprised mostly extra prime sorts. Values were easier by 20s a head on late rates. Extra prime steers made £lB 17s 6d to £l9 2s. 6d, prime £ls 12s 6d to £l6 17s 6d, medium £ll 7s 6d to £l3 2s 6d, extra prime heifers £ls 2s 6d to £ls 17s 6d, prime £lO 17s 6d to £l2 7s 6d, light £8 2s 6d to £9 2s 6d, extra prime cows to £l3 17s 6d, medium £7 12s 6d to £8 17s 6d.

- The yarding of fat sheep was the largest for some time. At t|ie commencement values were, lower by 2s than those ruling at the Pleasant ■ Point sale, and towards the end of the sale there was a further easing of 2s. Extra prime wethers made 34s lOd to 38s lOd, prime 28s 4d to 30s Id, light 24s lOd to 26s Id, extra prime ewes 34s Id to 37s lOd, prime 24s 7d to 28s lOd, medium 20s lOd to 22s lOd. In the store sheep section the yarding comprised mostly ewes and lambs. Prices had a firming tendency on previous sales. S.m. ewes with lambs at foot made 13s 3d, f.m. ewes and lambs 9s fid to 12s 6d, twotooth wethers, shorn 14s to 16s 6d. LORNEVILLE (FBESS iSSOCIAriOX TELiaXIVS.I , INVERCARGILL. October 24. The fat cattle yarding at Lorneville today was considerably smaller than last week. There was a representation of good quality beef of all classes. The siale was bright and values improved by about 15s a head. Prime quality bullocks made from £l6 to £l6 17s 6d, good quality medium-weights £l4 10s to £ls 10s. handyweights £l3 to £l4, light-weights £ll 10s to £l2 10s; prime quality heifers £l3 155.-handy-weights £ll 10s to £l2 10s, lightweights £9 10s to £lO 10s; prime quality cows £l2 10s to £l3 10s, good quality £ll to £ll 15s, medium £9 10s to £lO 10s. inferior £6 10s to £.7 10s. The fat sh6ep yarding, which was larger than in the previous week, comprised almost wholly ewes. Fat wethers were 4s a head dearer. Values for good quality ewes were about the same as last week, but medium and unfinished ewes were 3s cheaper. Prime quality wethers - made from 43s to 45s 6d, good quality 39s to'4ls, medium 35s to 375: prime heavy young ewes 375, prime heavy 32s to 355, good quality 28s to 30s, medium 24s to 265, unfinished 17s 6d to 20s; inferior quality sorts down to 10s; good quality shorn wethers 32s to 345, medium 27s to 295; good ewes 22s to 24s 6d.
