OFFICIAL FORECASTS [THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, October 24. The weather forecast for Canterbury issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: -Moderate to strong north-west winds, possibly changing temporarily to south-west. Weather mainly fair to cloudy' and mild, but showery and cooler with the south-westerly change. Seas slight to moderate. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:—
Moderate to fresh winds from a westerly quarter. Weather unsettled with rain at times. Moderate temperatures. Seas rather rough to rough.
DOMINION The forecast for the Dominion is;—
Rain probable in the southern and western districts of the South Island. Scattered falls later extending as far north as Taranaki. Otherwise fair temperatures mild to warm, but becoming cooler in the south. An anti-cyclone covers the North Island, while a vigorous depression is passing to the south.
Winds —Light and variable in the north. Otherwise moderate to strong northerly to westerly prevailing, reaching gale force in some exposed positions. A change to south-westerly probable in the far south by to-mor-row. ’ „ Seas (New Zealand waters)— Rough sotith of Cape Egmont and about Cook and Foveaux Straits. Slight or moderate elsewhere. Eastern Tasman Sea—Moderate northerly winds and moderate seas in the northern portion. Strong westerly winds and rough seas m the southern. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch yesterday was) fine and mild, with a light north-easterly wind in the morning and a slight north-easterly breeze in the afternoon. The maximum temperature during the days was 64.3 degrees.
At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was cloudy and there was a light north-westerly wind. .The temperature was 60 degrees and the barometer at 1010.5 millibhrs (29.84 inches), was falling sharply.

IN OTHER PLACES 1 Auckland—Yesterday was fine and sunny, with a light to moderate southwest wind. The maximum temperature was 66 degrees. The barometer was steady at 5 o’clock at 3012 inches (1020 millibars). Welllngton—Yesterday was cloudy with a strong, squally north-west wind. The maximum temperature was 61.0 degrees. At 6 p.m. the temperature was 53.6 degrees, and the barometer at 1014 millibars (29.943 inches). Dunedin—The sky was overcast and threatening yesterday, and there was a strong south-west wind.
