The Minister for Public Works (the Hon. R. Semple) and Mr E. P. Meachen, M.P., motored from Blenheim to Christchurch yesterday, inspecting the main trunk railway construction. Mr Semple will to-day hear a deputation on the extension of irrigation works between the Rakaia and Waimakariri rivers, and will later visit Burnham. With the Hon. P. C. Webb, Minister for Mines, he will leave for Westport to-morrow.
The Mayor of Christchurch (Mr R. M. Macfarlane, M.P.) was a passenger for the north by the steamer express last evening. Messrs H. D. Greenwood, D. Grant, H. E. Martin, and B. A. Washer arrived from the north yesterday morning by the steamer express.
