WINGS TOUCH IN FLIGHT
AIR FORCE MACHINES SLIGHTLY DAMAGED
BOTH AEROPLANES LANDED SUCCESSFULLY
When two aeroplanes from Wigram touched in flight at 7.45 a.m. yesterday, the wing tips were slightly damaged, but in spite of this and damage to an aileron both machines were landed without further mishap. The machines were Vickers Vildebeests. and at the time of the mishap were practising formation flying in cloud over Riccarton. Both pilots were able to regain control of the machm"s immediately after the contact, anc: the aeroplanes are expected to be in the air to-day. Commenting on the accident, the Officer Commanding the Air Force Station, Wing Commander G. S. Hodson, said that similar mishaps, though uncommon. had occurred before, the damage being slight and the machines being landed successfully.
