PUBLIC WORKS WAGES

TO THE EDITOR OT THE PRESS. Sir, —As an employee of the Public Works Department I am \yriting to express my surprise at the increase in wages we have just received. We neither -asked for it nor expected it in the present circumstances of being at war. In fact, we were all getting prepared for a cut and we would not have grumbled. We would have thought that at least we were doing something to help our country in this tragic time. 1. and many other working men from the Public Works Department, would like a lead from somebody to pay our increases in wages into some fund, not to help our own Government, which apparently does not want money, but to help our gallant soldiers who have voluntarily offered their services and lives for 7s a day.—Yours, etc., HONEST' LABOUR. October 24, 1939.
