NAVAL COMMAND IN AUSTRALIA

— REAR-ADMIRAL GRACE APPOINTED - (Received October 2, 11.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, October 2. The Minister for Defence (Mr A. G. Street) has announced the appointment of Rear-Admiral J. G. Grace, of the Royal Navy, to succeed Rear-Admiral W. N. Custance, who has been in bad health for some months, as Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Australian Navy. Rear-Admiral Grace, who is 52 years of age, was born near Canberra and entered the Royal Navy in- 1902. He was until recently naval assistant to the Second Sea Lord of the Admiralty Board (Admiral Sir Charles Little). Rear-Admiral Custance was appointed to the command in Australia in April, 1938.
