Dr. D, ; G. McMillan (Government, Dunedin West), said he thought that licence fees associated with births, marriages, and ] deaths could well be reduced. The , matter of. births was particularly important, as having children was an expensive business, and he suggested that reduction in fees would be a good move. “The effect of a high marriage licence fee is that the State gets more than it deserves, and the officiating minister often gels nothing,” said Mr H- Nqrdineyer {Government, Oamaru) amid laughter.
