SHARE VALUES FLUCTUATE A WEEK OF UNCERTAINTY Under the influence of events in Europe share prices in Christchurch showed some wide fluctuations this week. As hopes were raised so prices firmed; but at the end of the week uncertainty increased and markets closed on a lower level. While there were few signs of selling pressure, the volume of business at £21,913 was well above the weekly average for several months. The only occasion on which it has been exceeded since the end of October, 1938, was about a month ago, when the total was £22,744. Most of the business was in Australian industrials. Broken Hill Proprietary, Electrolytic Zincs, and Woolworths were actively traded in, and the turnover in these three stocks alone exceeded £13,300. Banks and othet classified sections moved irregularly on small business.
