“DETERMINED TO PLAY VERY IMPORTANT PART” . (pbkss issocirnoK telkorim.) WELLINGTON, September 1. “I think America is determined to play a very important in the defence of the Pacific,” said the Hon. W. Nash to-day, “but I have no authority for saying that.” Mr Nash met President Roosevelt and members of the State Department and the Treasury with a view to. paying the way for a reciprocal trade treaty. He said that the interest taken in the Dominion by the Government and people of the United States was increasing, and was expected to- be greatly stimulated by the linking of the two countries by Pan American Airways service. Mr Nash also visited Canada, where, after conference with the Minister for Trade (Mr Euler>. the existing trade treaty was extended for another year. Mr Euler expressed his willingness to examine means to increase Canada’s purchases of New Zealand products.
