NEW HINDS BRIDGE
REMOVAL OF DANGER POINT TEMPORARY STRUCTURE TO BE STARTED NEXT WEEK The one-way '- bridge over-the- Hinds river bn the Main South road, long regarded as a danger-point on,the highway because of its-narrowness and; the fact that it is higher, than, the. roadway, will soon bfe. replaced by a modern concrete structure, for which tenders have-already been called,- A temporary bridge, will be erected next week to carry traffic during the construction of the new bridge, •. , Members of the Ashburton County Council yesterday expressed great pleasure at the announcement that the old bridge was to be replaced, protests having been made, about it for many years. - - The engineer (Mr H. A. Vezay) 'reported that: a request had been made for the use of, the council’s pile-driving plant and gang for ..driving piles for the temporary traffic bridge.
