SUMMIT ROAD TRUST
TO THE EDITOR or TOT FREEH Sir, —While being glad to see the letter signed “First Things First” which 'pleaded against the destroying of Kennedy’s Bush to pay for the Sign of the Takahe, I think the case is even more serious than he realises. The Summit Road Trust is not only profiting from the selling of Kennedy’s Bush as food for livestock, but is attempting to produce an artificial patch of native bush near the Sign of the Kiwi. The wasting of funds on the Sign of the Takahe, seems to represent just another triumph of the bad taste for which colonial countries are noted. Why do we have to dine in an imitation English castle to get a thrill? Couldn’t we create something more essentially belonging to our country—Yours, etc.. NEW ZEALANDER. August 30, 1939. . “ “ 1 • • •* *
