OFFICIAL FORECASTS [THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, August 28. The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Light to fresh north-easterly winds predominating. Weather still doll with occasional rain or drizzle along the coast. Temperatures moderate. Sea moderate, but with a. considerable easterly swell. WEST COAST ' The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island' is:— Light to moderate winds, northeasterlies predominating. Some scattered rains nrobable, but weather otherwise mainly fair and mild. Seas moderate. DOMINION The • forecast for ‘,the is:— Mainly fair from the Waikato district northwards and in the western and southern areas of the South Island, but with some pass- ■ ing showers, especially in the north. Elsewhere still ■ dull and unsettled, with occasional rain or drizzle. Temperatures mild in the north, moderate in the south. An anti-cyclpne remains centred to the south-east of New Zealand. Pres- ; sure is low to the south-west and a series of weak depressions is passing in the north.

. Winds—Moderate to fresh westerlies north of Taranaki and Hawke’s Bay, but elsewhere moderat northeasterlies still predominating. Seas (New Zealand waters) —Rather rough north of Kawhiu and south o?< Banks Peninsula: elsewhere slight to moderate.

Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong westerly winds and rough seas in the northern portion. Light to fresh northerly winds and moderate seas in the southern portion.

CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER

The weather in Christchurch yesterday was dull, showers of rain falling in the morning and evening. The wind was a very light south-west in the morning and • a slight easterly in the afternoon. The maximum temperature was 50.1 degrees.
