PANNELL’S AVENUE
TO THE EDITOR Or THE PRESS. Sir, —I have read with great interest the urge for amalgamation in Pannell’s avenue. May the petitioners be successful in their very fine effort. As a member of the Aranui Burgesses’ Association, may I state that every encouragement was given by the association when the question of amalgamation was discussed at several meetings. May I sincerely congratulate the petitioners.
However, I feel it a great pity that the block starting on the left side of Wainoni road to the river round the river to Kerrs road should have been left out of the petition. I have been a resident in this area for 10 years, and I consider this block almost as thickly populated as Pannell’s avenue. Therefore, the needs for rubbish collection and generfl services are just as important from a health point as elsewhere. As I look back on paying a general rate for 10 years, may I ask: What for? I enjoyed the change-over from the Heathcote power, which saved approximately £5 a year on electric light. I feel sure that amalgamation would be almost as desirable as was the example of the electric power. Should steps be taken towards amalgamation in this area, I feel sure there would be 75 per cent, in favour of signing a petition. Trusting that steps may be taken by the residents of this area.—Yours, etc., A. BEARDSLEY.
