ASHBURTON. FESTIVAL CONTINUES
LARGE . CLASSES HEARD
Large classes were again presented at the festival of the Ashburton Competitions Society yesterday. There were several sections with about 20 competitors; and a good standard of performance, was’ maintained. There was good competition In the children’s vocal sections, and considerable interest-was taken in the men's negro spiritual and the Ijame Meipa scholarship classes. Competitors in /the latter sectioh last evening were Miss Isabel Purse, of Papanui. who sang Woman s Last Word” (Bantock) and "Love Triumphant” (Brahms), and Miss Eileen Pond, of Christchurch, who sang ‘‘Should He UPi braid” and "Drinking Song. OPENING NIGHT AT LEESTON
There was a full house on Monday night at the Leeston Theatre for the opening of the annual musical and elocutionary competitions held by the Presbyterian Church. Mr Denys Cow judged the music and elocution and Miss Kent the folk dancing.
